Changes in the New Exam Pattern for SSC CGL 2017
SSC has introduced some major changes this year in SSC CGL exam pattern as follows:
- SSC CGL exam will be taken online mode only
- SSC has reduced the time duration for the Tier-I exam from 75 minutes to 60 minutes.
- There is Tier-III is introduced which will be a descriptive type written exam of 100 marks.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier- I Exam Pattern
- The tier-i exam consists 100 questions in four subjects for 100 marks.
- Tier-I includes multiple choice type objective questions with 25 questions in each subject.
- The time duration for Tier-I will be one hour and will be conducted online.
- There will be negative marking of .50 marks for each wrong answer.
- Candidates need to clear Tier-I to be eligible for Tier-II exam.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier- II Exam Pattern
- Tier-II of SSC CGL will be online which consist two compulsory papers for all the posts.
- Time duration allotted for each paper is 2 hours.
- There will be 100 questions of objective type multiple choice questions.
- Candidates can choose the Hindi or English language. Paper mode will be online.
- There will be negative marking of .25 marks for paper 2, .50 marks for paper 1 & 3 and no negative marking for Paper 4.

- Paper-3 is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr. II & Compiler while Paper-4 is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier- III Exam Pattern
- SSC CGL has introduced Tier-III from this year to check the writing skills of the candidate.
- It will be offline (Pen-paper mode) and consists of an essay, letter, application, or passage writing.
- Tier-III carry 100 marks and time duration will be one hour.
- Minimum passing marks for Tier-III is 33% marks.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier- IV Exam Pattern
- Tier-IV is a qualifying exam in nature and known as the data entry skill test (DEST) or computer proficiency test(CPT).
- This exam is held to determine the typing speed and computer knowledge of the candidates applying for Asst. Section Officer in CSS post only and Tax Assistant post only.
