Know the Difference between NTA UGC NET and CSIR NET

If yes, then you should give a try to the NET Exam. UGC and CSIR are two exams which are conducted for the same purpose. There are many candidates who are confused between UG CNET and CSIR NET.

Basic Difference between UGC NET and CSIR NET


The main purpose of both exams is same. The UGC NET and CSIR NET exam are held to determine the eligibility for an assistant professor in universities and for JRF awards to candidates pursuing Ph.D. or research.

Exam Conveyor body:


UGC NET and CSIR NET both are held by separate agencies.

The UGC NET exam was earlier conducted by CBSE on the behalf of UGC. The HRD minister had proposed that all the national level admission exam for higher studies should be held by a single agency.

Thus, the Nation Testing Agency was proposed which will conduct various exams including UGC NET Exam from December 2018.

On the other hand, the CSIR NET exam is held by the council of scientific and industrial research agency.


Syllabus:


The UGC NET exam is held for more than 85 subjects like arts, commerce, dance, history, Language, etc. and is common for all the subjects.

On the other hand, CSIR NET exam is held for science stream candidates for 5 subjects that are physical science, mathematical science, life science, earth science, and chemical science.

Exam Pattern


Both UGC NET and CSIR NET exam are held two times a year in June/ July and December month. 

The UGC NET Exam consists of two papers than earlier 3 papers. The first paper has questions related to reasoning, teaching aptitude, mental ability, and higher education. Second paper consists of questions related to the subject or your post-graduation.

The first paper held for one hour for 50 questions of 100 marks while the second paper is held for 2 hours for 100 questions of 200 marks.

On the other hand, the CSIR NET exam is held for three papers. Paper A is common for all the subjects for 30 marks. Paper 2 consists subject related questions for max 70 marks while paper 3 is held for higher level questions of the post-graduation for 100 marks.


Eligibility Criteria:


There is no age limit for Net lectureship in UGC NET and CSIR NET while candidates applying for NET JRF must fulfill the age limit. The age of the candidates must be below 28 years for CSIR NET and below 30 years for UGC NET.


Qualifying Criteria:


The qualifying criteria are different for different subjects. The UGC NET and CSIR NET both release separate cutoff marks for each subject. Cutoff marks for NET JRF go high than NET lectureship.


Career scope:


The UGC NET and CSIR NET exam are held for the same purpose. After qualifying any of the exams the candidates will be eligible to apply for assistant professor posts in universities and junior research fellowship for research.

The science stream candidates can take advantage of CSIR NET career scope and similarly other stream candidates can opt UGC NET for various opportunities after post-graduation.

The candidates will be exempted from any admission tests and will be selected through a personal interview.
